What Are We Eating: Famous PUDN
There it was, in all its glory, perfectly positioned at the center of the tray.
The yellow paper beneath gave the overflowing glass jar a sunshine yellow reflection allowing the slow-dripping caramel to glow with a vibrance that seemed almost unreal.
Nestled around the edge of the perfect cloud of whipped cream was the Nilla wafers that defied all laws of physics as they maintained their balance along with the small pieces of chopped almond resting comfortably atop.
And at the center was the piece de resistance: the silky smooth banana pudding filling every inch of the inside of the jar, hiding slices of fresh banana waiting to delight every single tastebud.
Walking into PUDN was an experience beyond any other.
*Ding Ding* “Woooweee! Welcome!” the team shouted in unison.
This is how every new customer at PUDN is greeted at the register.
With the top hits from the 90s playing in the background, you immediately feel an electric vibe that puts a smile on your face and I was certainly in la la land.
As you walk up to the counter, all of your senses ignite. The smell of what seems like every sweet pastry ever made rolled into one tickles your nose. As your eyes scan the countertop, you’re dazzled by the colorful array of pudding types and toppings on full display. Your brain begins to attempt to process the number of pudding combinations you can create.
But it’s no use. The possibilities are endless.
The caramel crunch banana pudding sitting on the tray in front of me was a work of art. I stared in wonder for a moment before dipping the carefully crafted pudding spoon into the jar.
With an audacious scoop, I somehow managed to pull out every single ingredient in one heap.
A banana, a wafer, caramel, almonds, pudding, and the lightest whipped cream in the world.
I opened wide and was instantly put into a daze of pure bliss.
The cool banana pudding swirled around with the slight saltiness of the caramel and almonds. By the grace of God, the slice of banana magically merged with the wafer to create a stacked marvel, bringing it all together.
The sweetest bite of my life.
In less than 5 minutes, the jar was empty as I scraped the bottom praying for just another spoonful.
I can say without a doubt, that that was the best banana pudding I’ve ever had in my life.
